Fashion Leaps to Digital Wardrobe Game?

Cool new site, POLYVORE, makes the glossy look digital

Recently, during an attempt to learn more about e-commerce, I discovered a site that is taking fashionistas on a digital ride.

Polyvore is a interactive web page that allows you to search for pieces of clothing to essentially create on online wardrobe. You can click and drag pictures of dresses, necklaces, shoes and bags to literally create your ad of things you like.

It’s an awesome way to see what that red bag looks like next to that brown jacket without having to try them both on. It’s more like a virtual fitting room across brands and styles. I just had to share it.

I made my own fashion statement earlier today:

Agloves are iPhone gloves, iPad gloves, Android gloves, winter touchscreen gloves.

Now all we have to do is get Agloves to be a part of the fashion trend that is redefining the magazine.

Celebrating Pedestrian Awareness Month

Agloves are iPhone gloves, iPad gloves, Android gloves, winter touchscreen gloves.

August is Pedestrian Awareness Month.

In light of this unlikely “holiday” may I make a brief shout-out to those of you who:
(1) Walk to school or work
(2) Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, and/or
(3) Simply appreciate the beauty of movement on your own two feet.

In appreciation of Pedestrian Awareness Month, Agloves will be taking to the streets of New York City talking to pedestrians and getting their opinion on what it means to be a pedestrian. After all — where is there a better place than Manhattan to learn about urban commuting?

follow #PedXing on Wednesday, August 10 to get involved.

Agloves VP Attends New York Tech Meetup #nytm

A Glimpse Into the Tech of the Big Apple

What a small world the tech communities bring to those involved with them. Recently — August 2 — I attended the New York Tech Meetup to schmooze and shake hands with the innovators of the Big Apple and their trusty investors. Much to my surprise the event was welcoming, inviting and felt like a small local community despite the 18.9 million people swarming the island of Manhattan.

The meetup ran from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m, with roughly 800 tech or tech-related professionals in attendance. Not unlike the Boulder/Denver New Tech Meetup that I am familiar with, the #NYTM was cordial. Folks sipped (over-priced) beer and wine, smiled and shook hands all around.

Also similar to #BDNT, New York encouraged 5-minute presentations by founders of new technology companies. A list a presenters can be found at the end of this post, and included: Dibsie, Zaarly and others, as well as data analyst sites, geo-event sites, etc. There was even a guy who was developing a community art app called 110Stories which focused on rebuilding the New York landscape with the World Trade Center towers in the picture. Cool stuff, indeed.

After presenting, the audience could ask any question but — interestingly — you were NOT allowed to ask what the developing idea’s business model was. That was taboo. Which gave the innovators and thinkers a seemingly unfettered canvas to develop ideas.

I found the “no business model” model to be an elastic, supportive and growth bolstering model for new ideas and technologies. Anyway, the big hitters: LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, CraigsList and now Google+ didn’t initially (or still don’t) have a revenue-based model. They survive because people need them to survive, and network effects — or the idea that the more people involved in a thing make that thing stronger by virtue or size.

Building Community

Certainly the cherry atop the already sweet-filled night, was the proximity of friends. Sitting just in front of me was a married couple who — when I gave them a pair of Agloves and crowed about our story said, “Hey, I’ve already seen you. I already know about Agloves!”

The couple used to live in Boulder. They’ve now moved to the center of the universe –coughNYCcough — to develope a real-life-esque video game, similar to Zenga’s work. They remember seeing Jennifer and myself at Boulder Open Coffee Club (#bocc) the day we first announced touchscreen-ready Agloves to the tech community. Just some more cool stuff.

Here was the lineup of events and presenters:

Brom.ly – @Bromly – Helps you decide what to do tonight by providing personalized event recommendations based on your interests and social profiles. Presenter: Chad Gallagher.

CEO of Agloves Explains Being Entrepreneurial

Agloves are iPhone gloves, iPad gloves, Android gloves, winter touchscreen gloves.

Jennifer finishes the Bolder Boulder, 2010.

Some people start races, some people run races, some finish races.  I am Jennifer Spencer, race starter.  What I love is going from 0 to 100mph, taking nothing and making something, taking an idea and commercializing it.

People can be handy, witty, quick with mental math, or great with kids.  I am none of the above.  However, new products and concepts for paintings (I am also an oil painter) are continually presenting themselves to me.

On a fairly continual basis, my mind takes in random information and rolls an idea around and about.  Testing the concept.  Looking at it from multiple directions.  Does it solve a problem?  Is the problem intuitive?  How large is the market? Can the market be reached in an efficient way? Most of my ideas are not workable or easily commercialized.  Yet, they still come into my mind to be considered.

That said, having the idea is the easiest (and least expensive) part of the invention process.   Protecting, manufacturing and executing the concept are far more complex.   It often requires a broader skill set.  Agloves has required resourcefulness, imagination, problem solving and resilience. Our dedicated team has put in many long hours so that we can offer a solution for people who want to use their smartphone in the cold weather.

We’re happy that you like Agloves, touchscreen gloves.  It makes the hard work worthwhile.
